Symbian: Final update for Ovi Maps 3.0 Beta

The guys over on Nokia Beta Labs  announced today that the final beta of their Ovi Maps 3,0 Beta is here and guess what, The Nokia N97 and the Nokia 5800 are finally supported! Download the new version from here.

The new release includes:

   
• Additional features such as weather information, safety spot warners in selected countries, extended country coverage for traffic info service and premium POI's (Point of Interest) content for travel, selected events and cinema

   
• New maps data version

   
• Quicker zooming & panning

   
• New “Shop & Licensesâ€� format

   
• Also, a number of fixes and enhancements onto both Maps Updater and Map Loader have also been implemented - with Maps Updater supporting 21 different languages

   
• Last but not least, many bugs have been fixed!

Is this an update for the Nokia Maps application that was pre-installed on the 5800?

It look very nice. I'm happy they improved the panning and scrolling, because it tended to be quite slow.

I tried, but not able to update my Nokia Maps 2 on my 5800.
with a message like "Error trying to update application".

And I don't have any option to uninstall Nokia Maps 2.

I downloaded and installed Maps 3.0 beta yesterday and everything went smoothly 

I'm pleased that when I launch the app it doesn't remind me anymore that using maps can be expensive 'cause I'm not in my own network (in which I AM).

The graphics are much more nicer lookin' than before, and now I see all the nearby train stations etc.

And one of the best things is that when browsing the map and near by areas the map tells me how far I am from my current location (red dot). Nice feature to estimate distances 

All in all, I'm pleased with the new version of Ovi Maps, great work from Nokia
