Hi!

I was just wondering if it's at all possible to change from Symbian to either Android or Windows Mobile on Nokia 5800 XM!
I tried searching the forum for any related material without luck, it's not that I'm ungrateful for my 5800, it's just that I can't help but wanting either android or WM on my phone Tongue (preferably android).

Anyone who knows of poeple tried to convert their OS on Nokia 5800? (assuming this as android's open source).

Thanks Smiley

Yeah and it works without hassle... I have already seen it working on a Nokia N810, so figured it could be worked around somehow for the 5800 Smiley

@Mr. Bean
Well Now a days MAC runs on PC too.

@superfst
Well its not possible to change OS in 5800, because all the OS have different architecture and runs on different hardware configuration.

If you have linux based mobile phone like i have motorokr, then you could easily change the OS, but all based on linux kernel. LIke motorokr comes with default montavista linux, you can change it to install Openmoko(still on development), qtopia(still on development). And if you get source code, you can even make your own OS.

It should be possible.... They uses the same architecture?? But dont know how and if someone have tried developing anything.
On serveral windows mobile phones you can run android.
Look at xda-developers.com for more info.

But i would say. Buy an android if you want it.

I have tried to put OS X on my PC. No problem after they have switched to X86.

Would be great if Haret was converted to symbian. A tool the allows linux (And android) to boot on windows CE enviroment and
take advantage of the hardware internals of the Windows CE handheld.

The joy of Android is that it is open source... Nokia, well that's a different story.

Some hackers already work on that, it will be soon. This year. Nokia protected their OS, it's not easy. They manage to start dosbox before symbian loads and from there possibilities are endless. If you see win 3.1 on 5800... Only, RAM and ROM is small for better OS. But android support touch, it works in reduced hardware enviroment, it will be perfect. Imagine dualboot...

Hi guys!

I got really interested in porting android to my WinMo HTC Elf (HTC Touch), and a lot of people tried at the xda-developers forum to make a working port....

Im not a owner of the Nokia 5800 yet but, I moved my ideas of porting android to this phone since it has potential (hardware, ARM architecture etc). I've searched through internet and several forums and found this:
ArLo: A Linux Boot Loader for the Psion Series 5, 5mx and 7

It's basically a linux bootloader which boots linux on the old SE P800/P900s that runs on Psion (Symbians original name) Series 5-7. So a linux bootloader which works from a Symbian environment exists, the problem is that we have to write the 5800s drivers for it and adapt it to Nokias version of Symbian....

So I wanna make this a project of my own and hopefully some other interested persons wants to join this project to make this port....

Anyone with any kind of coding or developing skills would really help out this project!
Thx in advance guys!

EDIT: the SE P800/P900s use ARM9 and Nokia 5800 ARM11  Undecided so the ArLo bootloader have to be modified a bit since its written for a ARM11 architecture...
