It seems RIM's most recent troubles and greater than anticipated losses last quarter coupled with the expense of making their own in house OS BB10 has them searching for them ways to cut more expenses.
According to Reuters one of the options on the table is to ditch their own BB10 OS and adapt Windows Phone instead. The latest new out of RIM is not good. They have a huge quarterly loss and have postponed the launch of BB10 till "early 2013". This is over a year later than originally announced. The reason given for this is that BB10 has.."proven to be more time-consuming than anticipated. "This also could be translated into more costly than anticipated.
Recently Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had tried to strike a "Nokia type deal" with RIM and is still very interested in RIM to try to capture the business market.
While this report seems far fetched at the moment it's clear RIM is a sinking ship that needs patch the holes quickly. There is also rumors that RIM is looking into let other OEM's use their OS.
