I tried to flash my e63-2 rm-449 with rm437_500.21.009_prd.v20. I downloaded the latest update for rm-449 and then aquired rm437_500.21.009_prd.v20 from Navifirm and copied rm437_500.21.009_prd.v20 into the file at C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-449 and then flashed my phone using Phoenix. I had a few versions to select from, but none of them indicated the language pack I needed. I went ahead and selected one randomly, but the desired language pack was not installed on the phone. I also tried deleting the original language pack, but it would not let me flash the phone because of the missing files.
Can you tell me what I did wrong?

Make sure you download all the RM-449 firmware files from Navifirm (about 7-8 files I think).  When you put the RM-437 language file in the RM449 folder, make sure you DELETE the original RM-449 language file (i.e. rm_449_500.21.009_prd.vXX) and RENAME the RM-437 language file to the corresponding RM-449 file name.

Language pack swapping still works fine with E5-00 RM634 flashed with RM632 firmware version 42.14.  This phone is much faster and probably the FASTEST Symbian S60v3 phone around!

I downloaded the complete rm-449 firmware files from some other website because I do not know how to download .exe file from Navifirm (maybe you can tell me how to do that). The rm-449 has two language files, rm449_501.21.001_prd.v30 and rm449_501.21.001_prd.v32, I took them both out of the file folder and put the rm-437 language file inside and tried renaming it, I was able to change everything except for the .vxx part (because I would get an error message, "if you change the file extension, it will not be useable), but it still did not work.
Should I try using JAF instead? How would I do it using JAF. I am very new at this stuff.

You HAVE to change the extension as well or else it would not work.  It will probably be easier if you do FULL firmware swap instead of Language pack swap.  You simply download all the RM-437 firmware files and put it into the RM-449 folder in Phoenix (Delete everything else inside before).  Run Phoenix as usually and done.

I tried doing what you said and now the phone will not turn on. Phoenix said that the flash was successful, but now the phone will not work. What should I do now?

Flashing your own phone always has risk.  But you can always perform dead phone flash with Phoenix or JAF. Instructions are on the link below.

I don't see a reason why not beside the keypad might not have the input available if you want to enter thai language.  But you can always find replacement keypad from cellphone shop locally or ebay.

Hello, I have E5-00 RM-632 and I need to change the product code. I tried JAF, Phoenix and NSS, but i couldn't manage to do it. NSS 1.0.38.15 starts and scans on the first screen successfully, but when i go to Phone info and then start scanning shows an error message down left. Phoenix needs Tucson Password and Tucson PIN Code. I couldn't even start JAF under Win7.

P.S. I managed to do it by running JAF in Win XP compability mode.

Hi! Just wanted to thank you very much for this post! I've successfully changed my E71 language using that simple procedure using Phoenix. Tried other tutorials including JAF with no success.

Also changed language on my N97 just by changing product code with phoenix (it asked for a 7 digit order code so I wrote the 7 digit product code  Grin) and updating (actualy reinstalling) the firmware with Ovi Suite.

Note: didn't need to change neither the RM nor the fw version... so it got simpler.  Tongue

Thanks a lot again!!

Hey! I am new to blogging but I have happened upon the most recent post so I joined to find out how I too can change the language pack on my Nokia E5.  .
Language pack swapping still works fine with E5-00 RM634 flashed with RM632 firmware version 42.14.  This phone is much faster and probably the FASTEST Symbian S60v3 phone around!

I have not idea what flashing is, or where do get downloads or anything like that. Would someone be able to give some more instruction?
There were some previous instruction from 2009, but I would rather follow the advice of someone whom has already dont it to the E5.
I need to be able to read and write in both english, russian and ukrainian.

Any advice, directions or guidance anyone?

Same happened to my N95 RM-160 .Phoenix said that the flash was successful but when i operate it i see the nokia screen and then nothing but screen light. I tried jaf but i cant get it work... The firmware between language file and the rest files must be exact the same? Because i tried a language file for RM-159 and they have different version firmware.

Hi,
I use Nokia E63. Its info is as follows:

From *#0000#
410.21.010
08-02-2010
RM-437
Nokia E63-1(27)

From beneath Battery
TYPE: RM-437
Model: E63-1
IMEI: 3593190245*****
CODE: 0568940
FCC ID: PYARM-437
IC: 661V-RM437
WLAN: 0025CF40C7AA

It has English, Pilipino and Melayu languages installed in firmware. I live in Bangladesh and I want Bangla in it. I haven't seen Bangla in any S60v3 qwerty handset yet but have in some new Nokia phones like Nokia C3. Bangla T9 works too in C3.
So, I've decided to change firmware language and I need your help.
I've downloaded all the files of variant: RM-437 CTR APAC-S Bangladesh Ultramarine (0568941) of release 510.21.10 of Product Nokia E63 (RM-437) using NaviFirm Plus. I've downloaded Nokia service software cracked too.
Now if I refurbish/flash my E63 with this variants as shown above, I think I'll have both updated and changed the language firmware, right? Not sure...
Please advise.
And I don't know if there is Bangla in that variant. How can I be sure?
Waiting for you reply.

This topic helped me out tremendously so I joined just so I can share my experiences.

I flashed my NAM Nokia E63-2 RM-449 400.21.13 with the Nokia E63 (RM-437) APAC-Q HK Zircon White (0590124) 400.21.13 language pack. I followed the instructions to a T and it worked out great. My only qualm was that the Chinese input methods were only Chinese Traditional Wubihua and Chinese Simplified Pinyin. I didn't like Wubihua since it was incredibly rudimentary for a phone that has a full keyboard, but the pinyin input on the APAC-Q HK pack only allowed Chinese Simplified. The language options also said that Cangjie input was allowed, but I couldn't find out how to activate and/or access it, so if anyone know how to use Cangjie on the APAC-Q pact, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So I decided to play with fire and put the Nokia E71 RM-346 APAC-P Taiwan Black Steel (0577944) 400.21.13 language pack on my phone. I wanted a pinyin input for Chinese traditional characters or at the very least Zhuyin, which the Taiwan pack would have.  I figured that since the E63 and the E71 were similar, it should work. WRONG. I bricked my phone and had to use Phoenix to revive it. Luckily there wasn't too much damage (knock on wood) and I reflashed it with the original APAC-Q HK Chinese pack and it went back to working the same as before.

I was still peeved about not having Traditional pinyin input so I looked into it some more. I tried Psiloc Crystal Chinese Localization Input, but it was just Chinese simplified. Anyways, the program didn't work that well so I didn't think it was worth the hassle.

I looked around some more and I finally found a solution. ZTA4 or A4 input was advertised by Nokia in their Asian markets as a software app for inputting Chinese. It's made for E71 but it works well on E63 as well. It's not sold in the NAM Ovi Store but I found a .sis file online. I can't post links yet but Google "Nokia 手機論壇 Nokia A4輸入法" and it's the Citylink HK Forums, thread 6136

Download the attached file. Doesn't work if you try to download it straight from the Nokia web browser. Download on desktop, then you can install on your phone through Nokia PC Suite and activate it through Installations.

To change from Simplified to Traditional characters, go to SETTINGS and then "SC/TR Chinese Exchange". Change to "TR First". Victory was so sweet.

Hope this helps someone! Also thanks for all the tips on flashing the language packs.
