    Default 5800 GPS antenna mod

    What do you think about this mod:
    http://nokias60v5.blogspot.com/2010/...ph-alukka.html

    Has anybody tried it? Could it actually work?

    I'm not very happy with 5800 internal GPS (without A-GPS support), in my phone it does not get a lock at all.
    Then again, adding some bits of wire to my phone does not seem very tempting.

    Does it work for Indians living in Brazil?

    This is GPS not a GPRS connection, if it works at all it should work anywhere that has access to a sky, the same sky as in India and Brazil.

    Hi there,

    it's been around 3 months I'm playing with this mod and finally I have to say that IT WORKS! Using GPS of course without A-GPS!

    Be prepared that it won't improve
    * a cold start
    * a warm start (sometimes it even seems longer than without mod)

    Be happy about the following improvements
    * better reception, better accuracy, more satelites with stronger signals -> better reception inside houses, in forests and city-streets
    * faster hot start

    Be aware of the following
    * Wavelength 19.05cm, I use half of that ~9.5cm
    * Interference with GSM-Reception, mod as showed by J. Alukka turns 'around' the gms antenna and destroys handy signal reception
    [In my home I have only ONE position with good 5bars reception. Going around the gms antenna destroys that to 1-2bars only!]

    My working solution (-->see picture attached)
    * Fix it to the connector as J. Alukka describes
    * Turn around on the very side the wire gets contact und fix the last 5mm with a tape (let the wire go ABOVE the original GSM-Antenna not in front of it)

    Hope it helps, feedback mostly welcomed :-)

    Mods go in the Modding section, where this shall now be moved to!
