because they want the best of the costumer there money

PEOPLE PEOPLE symbian^3 is like windows on PC's. it can run on our devices after porting .
and it will run due to capabilities of your mobile. imagine you got windows on two pc's (different hardware) it will work due to hardware.
or like android !! android works on allot of different hardware,

but it is a matter of porting it to our tubes

Anyway.. Maybe since the type of screen is different.. It won't work. But then X6 is capacitive

Also.. It'll lag like crazy cause the N8 has a 1Ghz and we only have 434 Mhz.. Sad
maybe we can over clock the cpu's of the x6,5800,5530 and n97

you're right, plus there lot of videos of developers using pre-symbian^3 on 5800, yes there are hardware limitations, but its like 2 pcs one with a good video board e other with a terrible onboard card. One runs aero and the others not, N8 is multi touch with a great UI and 3d games and 5800 not.

Windows is designed to be able to run aero or not run aero, Symbian^3 is not designed to run without a GPU. I don't wanna be a negative nancy, but the odds of Symbian^3 on any Nokia s60v5 is highly unlikely.

frankly the hardware limitations are all bull----!

the 5800 can play a 150mb high quality 2000kbps mp4 nHD video smoothly with zero lag.

this means that its all software restrictions! if symbian3 truly has evolved, and if it does come as an upgrade option for current devices, all the current s60v5 phones would ROCK.

the default graphics processer is powerful ENOUGH.

use the new v50 music player, the scrolling is 60fps smooth!

its all software, and nokia's slowly getting there!

Playing a video and running a highpowered OS are slightly different.

Where you read that symbian^3 NEEDS a GPU? I do not think tha the symbian^3 kernel needs a 3D HW acceleration. I think Nokia wants all new phones with symbian^3, only excptions for Maemo phones, from the high-end N-series to the C series, it's disadvantageous create a new kernel every new hardware you make so make more sense that symbian^3 runs in other hardwares just with limitations.

Like I said before there is videos of Symbian developers usimg pre-realease versions of Symbian^3 on a 5800, without GPU acceleration and multitouch feature.

P.S. Sorry for my english, I'm still learning!

Symbian ^3 doesn't need a gpu to run, symbian ^3, like every other modern OS has a compositor that SUPPORTS hardware acceleration. Kastor, which acts as a compositor in s60v5, also supports h/w acceleration but can work with software rendering as well (and it does just that with Nokia phones). According to older Nokia presentations, Screenplay (which is the compositor included in Symbian ^3) also supports software rendering. Even if this is no longer the case, the only thing you lose when the compositor doesn't work, is transitions, effects and in some cases transparency (although AVKON supports transparency in software through svg).

In order to run S^3 inside older phones you really only need 2 things: The ability to package the OS inside a working flashable image, and the device drivers. The first might be possible in the near future with the help of PNHT. As for the drivers, since Symbian uses a microkernel architecture, the drivers are outside the kernel, so in theory we can extract them from our devices firmware and reuse them, but in practice the kernel might have changes that make them non compatible with it. In that case, since we don't have access to the drivers source, so that we can make changes and recompile, we are screwed .

All other arguments about hardware limitations simply don't apply. Symbian^3 supports both single and multitouch gestures so resisting screens can work fine with it. As for the limited ram, the Symbian ^3 kernel supports paging, so it can use virtual memory on a flash drive, thus surpassing the limitations of physical ram.

at the end, nokia won't port symbian 3 to our phones, but i think most of the features will be ported to our phones by the modders, that is the advantage of the open source
