guys.. i guess this post was already posted by sumone else b4..

as far as we know that the i8910 has a much better hardware (cpu & gpu & etc) compared to the 5800XM,... so technically if the porting was a success, the performance of the video player would not be great..

lets have better hopes from Satio's walkman player 1st... i doubt it wont be smooth based on the hardware limitation..

The 5800 isn't particularly limited by hardware as far as video playing is concerned. It can play almost any mpeg4 (divx, xvid and even some h264) content as long as it uses the mp4 container. The mp4 container limitation is an imposed one by Nokia and has nothing to do with the hardware of the phone.

The container limitation can be fixed by using alternative players (Samartmovie, UCPlayer...), and probably by importing the necessary decoders and related libraries.
However, decoding complex video requires good hardware, specifically a good graphics chip to enable hardware acceleration. This is present in Omnia HD, but not in N97/5800XM...

The decoders included with realplayer are already capable of playing back most every non hd mpeg4 (xvid, divx) content on the 5800, without the need for gpu acceleration (there already is non gpu acceleration). The reason 3rd party players lag is that (for reasons that aren't relevant to this thread) they are using their own decoders that are not as efficient as those of realplayer's. If the 5800 realplayer supported the avi container you could play back your movies, tv shows etc, without the need of conversion and more importantly without lag.
