Default 5800 Gallery - Filter what is displayed?

The Gallery in the 5800 basically displays all the photos, pictures, videos, etc that is on the 5800. Is there anyway we can set some kind of filter to what files or folders it should read from only and display?

It kinda bugs me how the gallery displays everything including items I don't want to be listed such as icons, bmp, pics, wallpapers, etc. Everytime I install a new app which has pictures or icons in them, the gallery will display them as well. So would prefer if I could select what gallery should display. For example only read and display all images & videos from the images & videos folders.

Anyone have any idea if this can be done? Tks

I'd like to know the answer to this too - after transferring all my music to the phone, which had folder art, all the folder art images appear in the Gallery. All the videos appear there too as well as in the Video Centre. Gallery is pointless and un-usable as it stands.

the only work around now is to use the folder functions in gallery.

My gallery gets really heavy and often even crashes. I think it's because of those video clips or for some reason it can't create a thumbnail for the photos I've taken(the pictures I have transferred to phone work fine).
Really bugs me that the Gallery is such a piece of turd as it is.

I found a way to hide those files you do not want displayed by Gallery. Install Y-Browser and create a new folder to store all your pics, videos, etc. Now use Y-Browser to change the attributes of the folder so that its hidden. So Gallery can't see the folder and hence won't display the contents in that folder. You can still view or run any files within the hidden new folder using Y-Browser.

I also hope that folders have thumbnails take several seconds for the name to appear and you have to tap it again. this sucks
