it is a contact problem, the wire contact on the ear piece is not having good contact, so u have to bend the wired contact out a bit more before u put it back.... problem is, the wired contact can become loosen again and u have to "fix" it again, i fixed mine twice already this month..... if there has to be a third time, i am so going back to nokia.

depending on your luck, it could be dropouts, or a total loss of all sound.

I was unlucky, totally cannot hear any sound at all.

But after DIY, this baby is LOUD AND CLEAR!!!

if you can hear your friend clearly then it's ok.

this is for the earpiece when u put the phone to your ear, not the speaker phone function.

I found another forum with the same topic but this time they say it should be unbent. It got me confused

For those who have sent their unit to Nokia, did they replace the ear piece or did they just bent/unbent the contacts? Mine is still at Nokia and they told me it would take around 3 days just to get it fixed.

i dont recognize such problem with my earpiece but sometimes i find it very difficult to understand what's the other side is saying .. voice becomes strange, but not static .. and its high enough to hear, not VERY low as some members said ..
does my 5800 seem to have the same earpiece problem?

    hi all

I hade the same problem ...

    to fix it

simplly open the back cover... you will see 4 silver screwes ( one on every corner )
you will have to tighten the ones on the top ( left & right )
to make a good contect on the wires....

I did that and have no problems since ever with the call sound

    .........

    Default Can't hear caller: nokia 5800 !

    Hey all !

Thanks in advanced for your time to start reading this post !

I bought my nokia 5800 like 9 days ago.
It worked perfectly and im really really happy with it.

Only today it started showing problems
When I call, or when I get called, I dont hear the person at the other side of the line.
However when I turn the speaker on (handsfree) I do hear them !
When I plug in the standard headset It also works.

I allready reseted the phone to its fabrication configuration.
    But it didnt helped
Is this a hardware problem ?
Or is there anything else I can do with it ?

I really dont wanna send it back to where I bought it, because it will take like 3 to 4 weeks !

I really hope you guys can give me some support !

    Gr, Lars from the Netherlands.
