    you have Viking Informatics WiFiRadar

The main screen shows detected wifi networks.
    Red dots: closed networks
    Yellow dots: undetermined networks
Green dots: Opened networks, or networks with stored password.
At startup, all detected networks will be yellow, and after trying one after each other,
they will be either green or red.

    FEATURES

    * displays nearby access points on a cool animated radar screen
    * sounds an alarm when an available connection has been found, and displays it on the screen
    * lists nearby WLAN access point.

That is pretty neat, but you'd have to be almost right on top of them to see that. That app seems more gimmicky than anything.

don't know haven't tried it myself yet but its like you say more a gimmick but it shows hot spots never the less.
ill take it out for a field test this weekend.

i guess its not what the topic starter was looking for. im sitting here testing it and it shows a bunch of networks and thats about what it does you cant connect to then through the app which is pretty crap.
well it says (at my place) that there are only closed access points found keep scanning

    Two steps

    1. Create a connection point for your Wifi using Settings -> Connectivity -> Wireless LAN
    2. Next assign a manual IP address for your wifi connection using Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations -> Internet -> [Highlight your connection Name] -> Options -> Edit -> Options -> Advanced Options

    Hope that helps.

Obviously you will need to know what IP subnet is being used first.

Hello people, just bought a 5800. Beautiful phone!
Just wondering if someone can help me with my WiFi, i work in a school and i connected to the schools network. but to get onto the internet you have to enter the proxy settings. i was wondering if anyone could tell me if you can do this on the nokia and if so where?

    Thanks
