    well it depends on your coutry
    in country like india most phones are unlocked ....
    in other countries phones are locked to a specific network ...and u need to unlock them ...

    by the way there is a very thin line between unlocking and hacking ...
    according to me unlocking also comes in hacking
    forget the imei method ...but other s/w methods of unlocking also come under hacking ...
    like iphone unlocking is also hacking ....bb unlocking is also hacking ....

    hacking is basicaaly modding to your own needs which is otherwise not provided by the manufacturer

    Same here,

    In my country, other than the iPhone and some blackberry devices, there is absolutely no branded devices. I have a hard time explaining the plan that I have to pay every month. Everybody uses PAYG here.

    none of my phones are network locked ...i have unlocked all of them ..
    i dont like sticking to contracts and shelling out money unnecessarily
