No, some times is there because it's a bug and remains there even if all mails have been read.

Just send yourself another mail, read it and it will dissapear.
I have same problem using mail for exchange. It happens if i get mail and read it first on my computer. Mail is synchronised in phone as being read, but icons is still there. And mail is already marked as read on the phone, so icon cant be hidden unless you get new mail and read it.

had all my mails read, send me a mail, read it on the phone, still there. Had all my mails read, the icon is there, I restart the phone, the icon isn't there, I connect to the mailbox, the icon isn't there, I send me an email, I receive it, the icon is there, I read the message, the icon is still there... and the icon will always be there...

I think you will have to use the last alternative and hard reset your device . Or since it has happend to other people just wait till the next firmware update.

The bug is back again! I had that stupid bug once before and finally did a hard reset to get rid of it. Now I'm on fw v30.0.x. and the icon wouldn't disappear again.

This time I just didn't want to do a hard reset so I played a little with "read" and "unread" settings and found a way to solve the problem. The following worked for me:

    1. Open your email folder
    2. Deny the connection to your email account
    3. Mark all emails as "unread"
    4. Get your emails with the option "all"

Suddenly the messenger downloaded 8 emails again and the icon was gone.

Happened to me before numerous times.
What I did was to changed the "Memory in use" from E:Memory Card to C:Phone Memory and then back to E:.
    Problems solved.

I tried that too (changing to E: and back for me). Like a reboot it gets rid of the icon, but when the next email arrives it won't disappear again. It looks like my problem was some kind of a sync problem with the IMAP inbox and these 8 emails mentioned above were just lost somewhere. Before I didn't download them again the icon just wouldn't go away.
