Default Tips & Advise on buying a used 5800...

Hello fellas and thanks to all for a fabulous forum.

I just sold my 9300 communicator and am in the market looking for a used 5800 and I was wondering if there is perhaps anything I should be aware of? Most of the 5800's here are made in china not Finland, is there any secret codes I should check or something?

I thank you all in advance.

P.S off topic, I used to have a notes application in my 9300 which was very quick and easy to write down something very very fast (just with one click) is there such an application for the 5800 where with just a click or press you can get to writing fast after unlocking the screen?

    Reza.

just test everything before buying a 2nd hand phone or any gadget.

-make a call to a friend and ask him/her if the reception is good
-send sms/mms messages to your friend and ask him to reply also via sms
    -test the internet using wifi
    -test the internet using 3g
    -test the video call function
-take pictures and video with its camera
-test the gps using ovi maps
    -look for dead pixels

-also, if possible buy a phone which still has a warranty from nokia (at least 3 months warranty left)
-check if the external memory card included is 8gb and nokia original
-check if the battery is original nokia

-also be aware that there are now fake 5800 made in china, it looks the same as the original but the software is different (if the 5800 you are buying has a dual sim, then its a fake. although there are also fakes that has a single sim only). try go to an official nokia store and ask to test an actual unit to be able to gauge how the real 5800 works.

-lastly, why not buy a brand new unit? the nokia 5800 is very cheap now. it also has the "comes with music" option, where you can download 500 mp3's/music videos for free.

Yokam, thank you so much for your detailed answer, rest assured I will do all you said.

The 5800 is 260 US$ here and the second hand is around 130$, I feel like the 5800 is at the end of it's life and about to be superseded by another phone, I also really like to try Android but still expensive here, so I thought I just get a used 5800 for a year and then upgrade to either Symbian 3 or android.

    Thanks again.

    Reza.

there is a code to input "lifetime timer" or something like that. the amount is hours, so the higher the time the more used the phone is.

input this in dialer *#war0anty# (*#92702689#)

i researched a bit about life timer and it seems that the time it displays is the amount of hours your phone was 'used' on calls.

yeah but be aware that once the unit underwent a hard reset, the life timer also goes back to zero.
