    Default Questions about garmin

    I installed Garmin mobile xt on my 5800 but i don't know if it supposed to work inside my house or just outside and other details about where i can use the gps signal. Can you enlighten me please ? Inside it tells me that it is searching for gps signal but notting happens.

    Also where can i find my gps settings on the phone ?

    Sure it is supposed to work inside the house, how are you supposed to find the bathroom and spare bedroom without good clear voice navigation?

    Joking! GPS satellites generally do not penetrate bricks and mortar, therefore it is highly recommended to take your device outdoors.

    Ok i know it was a silly question i meant use in the house just to test the device, not actually use it xD

    Try first taking the 5800 outdoors to get a GPS fix then see if you can maintain a signal in the house. All depends on your surroundings as to whether it will work, but one thing is for sure, if you don't try, you will never know.

    take it outside to get a fix , sometimes it can take about 20 mins to get signals on first use after that it only takes about a min at most

    @Edeph,
    If you activate Assisted GPS and Network based settings in Location>Positioning Methods, then you can get a quick GPS fix (even inside a house). After that is done, close it and open Garmin. Now you should get a quick fix.
    Note: activating AGPS will cost money because of data exchange.

    If you want to know more about GPS software, take a look at the GPS topic (I was thinking to merge this topic to it as well...).

    GPS is free, but AGPS (Assisted GPS) will cost money, because it downloads data via GPRS/3G network (just a small amount of about 10KB).
    If you have a data plan, then you don't care about this (it is included).

    Go in phone menu to Applications>Location>Positioning Methods and you will see Assisted GPS and Network based options.

    Thanks those were the options i was looking for I see that i have assisted gps , network based and integrated gps checked, so i guessit is free ?? :/
    Anyway i managed to activate my gps today and it works great. Thanks for all the help, and one more question, you said that AGPS uses 3G , so i have to keep 3G activated on my phone ? I deactivated in to save some battery life
