There are many models that come out with a worse support than S60V5 phones. Nokia has done a fair amount of FW upgrades to their models (look at how many FW versions came out for 5800XM).
Look at S60V3 owners - some models (for example N96) cost their owners huge amount of money. The support and performance of those phones is even worse.
Or, look at n900 owners: Maemo 5 will most likely be replaced by MeeGo, and who can say with absolute certainty that n900 will get the upgrade?

I'd say, just use your 5800XM, and end of this year or next year get something else that you like. These days phones don't last longer than 2 years anyway.
i was just thinking about n900 these days, but meego? ... whatever

anyway (not symbian related) news : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8515915.stm (windows mobile 7) to whom it may concern...

Guys I think it's possible to have this on our phones. It's open-source and I believe there are geniuses out there to get it working on our phones, but I guess by that time we're already switching to WinMo7 ^^...

To little to late. S3 is domed to fail. Sorry guys and gals but a nice coverflow and taskmanager wont get the Android, Bada and Iphone users. The rest of the system is just plain old S60v5 with transisions that for once SEEMS to float. Symbian will be a small player if S4 is as dull. Symbian will then have to find a special targetgroup that noone else got and focus on them. To play amongst the big guys you have to understand the rules.
Sure ppl will buy S3 devices, but I'm pretty sure most ppl will find it dull and go for the competitors.

i think from what i've seen in the videos, it's pretty fluid and good eye candy, whatever the competition may have: htc for their innovative ideas, apple for their superb audio quality, nokia will still target the masses with lower prices and general usability and functions. and i think many people will buy into that. that's the reason that symbian, as of the moment has a lot more threads here in dm than apple or winmo or android. i honestly believe this trend will continue.

i'm not saying that nokia is or will be the best thing to buy out there, but the price to function ratio is pretty much okay.

since i'm no millionaire, i'd prefer nokia but if i were, i'd prefer htc and apple. simple as that.
