hmm strange.. try to format your mem card on your PC!
but actually don't know. if you got 8GB mem card then at least 300mb will be unusable

next time you connect your phone to your computer just use PC Suite Mode instead of USB Mode because it will surely corrupt your data no matter what whether you Safely Remove it .. Another option connect your phone using USB Mode and before you disconnect it change the mode to PC Suite Mode..

if they are stored in your memory card they will surely be deleted, but before you reformat your mmc back-up all your data first just to be sure.. Use both to format, first using PC and then format it using Phone so that it will have the default folders..

    I've exactly the same problem.
I was downloading applications from Ovi store and installing them, suddenly the memory stick data is completely lost and pictures and music files and map data and everything is lost. The phone returns to basic theme and no applicatons work.
This happened twice already and I'm pissed off with this buggy phone now.
I'm using software version 40.0.005 on Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.
Can anybody give me a solid solution to it.
I've already tried formatting the memory stick and this isnt helping me.
I've also formatted the phone to factory settings and this isnt helping too.
    THANX!

maybe ur data in memory card move in to hide folder.. i heard some virus can do that, so make sure connect ur phone in mass storage mode and turn on the show hide folder under folder option on ur pc...

    just my opinion..
