5800 headphones really sound low, i tried using the same headphones for 5610xpressmusic phone it sounds really loud, now i think nokia needs to find a solution to this problem and fix it in the new firmware hope they do it soon or its useless calling the 5800xpressmusic phone.

there is a very simple trick to this, increase the volume on the phone while the earphones are on low i have found the volume controls work indipendantly and doing such allows me to crank up the volume on my headphones!!
the 5800 also bosts independant volume settings if you crank up your music and switch to video it will revert to your previouse video volume setting imo not a bad feature once your use to it

Take it to the nearest Nokia care service center. They will fix the earpiece problem.

Does anyone know what the op is describing here on how to do this procedure? I can't get enough volume when listening with the included headphones.

Is there a software or something that I can use to increase the volume of the phone itself, not the earphones ?

I have some Sony In-ear ones with bass boost. The sound is pretty loud on some MP3s. I guess it depends on the loudness of the MP3 files. You can use music editing software to increase the volume of the track. Often I'm using the Jazz equalizer, i think it's the loudest and has the clearest quality. By the way, what genre do you listen to?
P.S. I just found out my earphones model - Sony MDRED12LP.
    They look like this:

SS2006 is correct, compare the sound with the 5800 vs. any ipod, the headphones need more volume like the ipod.
