So be cautious if you try to upgrade to V21 but want to keep your language pack. If anyone successfully installs a language pack for V21, please report back.
can we downgrade back to v20? at very moment, i am upgrading to v21 ..

I was able to change the language pack from NAM to HK following jtay025's method. The only difference is that I used V21 on NAM firmware with V21 HK language pack. I used navifirm to download the firmware and flashed with phoenix. A big big thanks to jtay025. Now I can input and display traditional Chinese on my wife's and my own 5800!!!

Edit: I used the V21 NAM for US product code (0577454), not Rogers...

Glad to know that you got it working. Could you please let us know what is the version of the phoenix you used and the product code of the HK v21 (I saw severals in navifirm)?

zhaofl, I think the phoenix version is something like 2009-04-26 and the product code I used is 0581337, which is HK black version.

Thanks nxrick! I got it working with Phoenix 2009-4-12. Also a big thanks to jtay025 for the originality of his method.

Just confirming the results of nxrick and zhaofl with a bit more detail for those interested.

    1) Phone Model: 5800 RM-428 NAM (0577454)
    2) Original firmware: US 20.2.014
    3) Used navifirm to obtain new firware files listed in 4 and 5.
    4) 5800 RM-428 US v21.2.025 (0577454)
    5) 5800 RM-356 HK CV v21.0.101 (0581337)
    6) Used the file RM-356_21.0.101_prd.rofs2.V23 from (5); renamed; to replace RM-428_21.2.025_prd.rofs2.V17 in (4).
    7) Did a 3-button reset on the phone before hand: Green-Red-Camera while powering on.
8.) I left in the both the SIM card and memory card. Don't know if it matters.
    9) Used Phoenix version 2009_4_12 obtained from PhoenixSlayer blog.
    10) Followed the very helpful Phoenix flashing instructions posted at http://realinfo.info/index.php?topic=1549.0. - As my Phoenix package was different, I did not use their installation instructions. But I did follow the precautions of removing all Nokia software beforehand.
    11) I actually did everything from Windows XP SP3 running inside a VMware virtual machine. VMware is able to use USB from a vm.

Everything went smoothly. As the language pack I grabbed in (5) is a Hong Kong one, the phone now has language choices of English, Chinese Traditional, and Chinese Simplified. This choice also extends to the phone display menus. No more problems with Chinese web pages, or emails containing Chinese, or even English character only emails with Big5 or GB encoding. Input can also be done in any of the three languages, and handwriting recognition also works for all three.

I have not tried 3G, but from postings by others, I'd expect it would work.

Many thanks to jtay025 the originator, and to nxrick for having tried it and confirming it would work with version 21.

Oh well, at least I got Chinese now!
To get and fix the database of the dictionary go here:
    http://www.nokia-asia.com/get-suppor...evice-software

It's for N95 but seems to work OK with 5800.
