Default Re: Successful change of language on RM-428 5800 NAM Phone!!!

Fisrt of all, thanks to jtay025 for taking a risk to discover this work-around!

Second, I want to confirm the successful language pack change on a NAM 5800 (RM-428, 0577454) that worked with 31st firmware.

    Here's what I used specifically:
    -Phoneix 2009.12.007.38366
    -Navifirm to download firmware
-RM428_31.2.101 (the right firmware for this NAM model in which the lang. file was replaced by the one from a firmware for RM-356 - see next line)
-RM-356_31.0.101_prd.rofs2.V05 (lang. pack file taken from a 0581777 firmware pack, this is lang. set 05 for russian, ukranian etc.)

    Note:
-I already had RM428_31.2.101 fw on my phone prior to flashing, i.e. I used the same version that was already on my 5800, so neither down- nor up-grading
-The process was real easy and fast: upload all prepared files into C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-428, start Phoenix and in the "Firmware update" window dialog choose "Restore User Product". There's also another option "Refurbish", but I believe it is for bricked phones.
    -3G tested and works

Now you can upgrade to v40 with Kinetic scroll since it's out for RM-428 on Navifirm =-)

    Yep, it's out indeed - you're right! :-)

HOWEVER, this trick with substituting the language pack file didn't work for me with v40 firmware for NAM. It really did complete the flashing with the message of it being successful. But the phone wouldn't boot up. So I re-flashed it again in DEAD mode without lang. pack being replaced and it worked fine.
Just to make sure I repeated this whole cycle several times - all the same: bricking after lang. file replacement and bringing to life with the untouched NAM v40 fw.

Now, I have v40 fw, but lost russian language, downgrading back to v31 (where I had russian) is not possible (at least with Phoenix, even with "Allow SW Downgrade" checked off). I'd rather keep my language and not have the v40, but well... At least this will be a warning for those who are still to try it :-)

    Cheers.

This situation also happens to me and I lost my Chinese language in V31 after upgrading to V40.

Sxxt! I was hoping when NSU/Navifirm is up again I can do the swap. It was down for some reasons yesterday.

I wonder if it needs to hacked first similar to RM356_40.0.005_023_xxx_U01.uda.fpsx before it can be swapped.

Hopefully someone from PNHT can tell us something. The forum discussion link is below:

I think it's time for us RM-428 users to use this Nokia Editor to try repack the original rofs2 file with the language desired. Probably it will work. If it doesn't, I guess dead usb flash will work.

I will post detail if it works and hopefully others user had the problem changing language pack to try as well.

People discussed to use Nokia Editor to remove language but not add language. Found http://forum.dailymobile.net/index.p...msg150276.html and it helps display Chinese but does not accept Chinese as input. It works to display Chinese but I am wondering if it slows down my phone.

I got fed up waiting for NAM US v40 to be out for the swap... so i went on with another solution by Chrisk22 which is like the FontRouter method:
    http://forum.dailymobile.net/index.p...c,15954.0.html
simply just copy&paste the fonts into E:\Resources\Fonts n u can view all unicode international languages... ofc there is no option to change menu to these languages... but viewing alone is awesome (for me... music info in CT, JP, KR )

so it seems like u cant swap on v40? :P... I'm planning to use NAM US v40 untouched + Fonts for now

It happened to me, too. Is there a solution yet? I used to have RM-356 fw v40 on my RM-428 nokia 5800. I just found out today that fw came out for RM-428. I used Phoenix to flash it back. But language swap didn't work.

v40.2.5 is out for another product code on NAVIFIRM 0577305 which is just a standard 5800XM and not a Navi Edition 5800. I wonder if Navi edition makes a difference in language swap.
