Thread: Symbian Upgrade

    Default Symbian Upgrade

    Hello,

Is it possible to upgrade a Symbian Version? I'm have a Sony Ericsson Satio with Symbian^1, but Symbian^3 is already out. Is it possible to upgrade
or install the new Symbian version onto it?

    Thanks in advance.

It is possible, but do you think companies like SE and Nokia will give us an upgrade? Upgrade = Less sale = Less profit. They'll probably make a phone that comes with Symbian^3 and make us to buy the new phones, that's how they make money, even if they would don't expect it to be fast, like we 5800 users finally got new features after 7 months of waiting...

    True.

Is there any other way to upgrade Symbian, I mean non-official?

Symbian^3 is not complete yet. You can get the source code and development kits, but it is far from being a final firmware that can be flashed on current phones.
It is expected that first devices will come 2nd half of this year. Only then S^3 FW files will be available, and can be experimented to flash S60V5 phones.

So it is possible? And if it's complete, how can I flash to my phone?

I don't know yet if it is possible.
When it is complete, some will try to flash it using the traditional tools like JAF. Only then we can know for sure.

Personally I doubt it. Even flashing the N97 homescreen into the 5800, and both are the same Symbian^1 is like taking forever, what more an entirely new OS?

I don't care how long it'll take, as long as it's working afterwards..
