When I connect it to my PC, I get the "USB Device Not Recognized" message in my Windows taskbar so I know the phone is somewhat alive.
In Phoenix I follow the instructions for flashing dead phones that were posted in this forum, but Phoenix only gets to this point:

    Flashing started
    Creating product data items list
    Product data items list created
    Backup not required
    Flashing phone
    Initializing
    Loading image files...
Waiting for USB device. Press phone's power button (if you start from dead terminal)

I hit the power button but it never communicates. Any ideas? Do I need to get get on of those flashing boxes like Genie Universal in order to reflash a dead phone. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
try rapidly tapping the power button. this could also mean that the battery is dead. you can't usb flash with a dead battery.

you can also use nss to know what you have changed it to. just fire it up and go to the same window and instead of clicking on write, click on read.

can any pro modder tell me the thing? i made my cfw for 5800. all worked fine but one day i've modded it a bit over and killed my 5800. the phone just vibrated a bit at startup with no lights & black screen. so here it is: in one folder i have working/tested cfw. in second the killer one. i flashed the phone twice with tested cfw. but again it couldn't start. i read i need to flash with original fw, and now it's ok.

here is the question: why my phone hasn't started when i flashed with WORKING cfw?

that shouldn't be the case. maybe you interchanged the files by accident? have you tried flashing with the tested custom firmware mate?
