    Default [QUESTION] Overclock Nokia 5800?

I know this is a well known and tirelessly discussed topic, BUT:

Is it crazy to think that if:
Firmware v21.0.25 and onward has 434 MHz
    and
    Firmware before has 369 MHz

That somewhere in the firmware of both contains the CPU Clock Rate?

If so, do people here think it's possible to find similarities from all

    Firmware >= v21.0.25 (434 MHz)

    then

    Firmware < v21.0.25 (369 MHz)

and them compare the two groups to find what is different between these groups of firmware -- therefore, by finding where it is different, we can edit the same spot to change the CPU Clock Rate?

I've spent a bit of time to find all similar files between Firmwares >= v21.0.25 and Firmwares < v21.0.25,
but just wonders if anyone else thinks that there is a file(s) (driver, txt, cfg file, etc) that declares the CPU Clock Rate? :P

But we can start looking for the file...

I was trying to look for differences between firmware, and I ran into a group of files that start with:

    CMFW*

    For example:
    - CFMWBootstrap.dll
    - cfmw.cfg
    - etc.

I was wondering if anyone knew what CFMW stands for?

I went to the Symbian Developer website (developer.symbian.org) and found an interesting article regarding CPU Clock Rate, under the following topic tree:

Product Developer Library ╗ Symbian OS Guide ╗ Kernel and Hardware Services ╗ Bootstrap ╗ Port Implementation Tutorial ╗ Platform-Specific Source Code

    http://developer.symbian.org/main/do...lic.guide.html

I was looking at the function "InitialiseHardware()" in particular, under "What the function should do" on line "3" it stated:

The precise split between what is initialised here, what is initialised later in the bootstrap, and what's done during variant initialisation is flexible, but as an absolute minimum this function must make some RAM accessible. Typically this function would set up ROM and RAM controllers, set the CPU clock frequency, set sensible states for GPIO lines and set up whatever bus controller is necessary to communicate with any external peripheral chips present.

I also found more information retaining to "bootstrap" and what it is:

The Bootstrap is a program that the phone runs after a hardware reset. The task of the Bootstrap is to prepare a basic environment for the Kernel to run. If the phone uses NAND Flash, then the NAND Flash Core Loader loads and starts the Bootstrap.
Symbian OS divides the Bootstrap into a platform indepenent layer that can be used with any ARM device, and a platform specific layer that you must implement when you create a new phone.

I extracted four sets of firmware and separated them into 2 groups of 2:

    GROUP 1 GROUP 2
    >= v20.0.012 and < v20.0.012
    ------------- -------------
Hong Kong Variant v40 HK CV Black 11.0.9
HK CV Black 21.0.25 KTF Black v11.0.8

    1. compared using WinMerge the Group 1 (post v20) firmware for identical files (same Clock Rate = 434 MHz).
    2. compared using WinMerge the Group 2 (pre v20) firmware for identical files (same Clock Rate = 369 MHz).
    3. compared the two groups (Group 1 & Group 2) for different files (different clockspeed).

The result I ended up was with one single file: cmfw.cfg
-- being identical between firmwares in the same group, and different in different groups.

I think that it has something to do with CMFWBootstrap.dll but not entirely sure, because I couldn't find CMFWBootstrap.dll in any HK firmware prior to v20.0.12 (I checked both HK CV Black v11.0.9 and H3G HK B v10.0.10, although the file did exist in KTF Black v11.0.8 ).

I'm going to continue looking into it, and update if I find anything related. Not even sure if it's really related to the CPU Clock Rate.

As far as i understand it, the cpu clock is tied to the GSM chip. If you increase or decrease the Cpu clock, then the operating GSM frequencies would change. (you could not connect to the network) and there is always the risk of frying the CPU

    I think overclocking is POSSIBLE
    but
the system STABILITY will be a problem!!!

Yes, but if Nokia can adjust clockrate without difficulties, an expert could do the same.
