Below is a glimpse of the text found on this link:

"A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network in which some of the links between nodes are carried by open connections or virtual circuits in some larger network (e.g., the Internet) as opposed to running across a single private network. The link-layer protocols of the virtual network are said to be tunneled through the larger network. One common application is secure communications through the public Internet, but a VPN need not have explicit security features, such as authentication or content encryption. VPNs, for example, can be used to separate the traffic of different user communities over an underlying network with strong security features...................."

Well, this is just the beginning.....it gets nastier on the way ahead. How on earth can a layman be expected to understand VPN by reading this thing?

So bro, U might be a technical person but everybody aint. I wasnt interested in knowing bot the 'design' of VPN. What I asked was just its utility for a mobile phone.

    No, i┤m a historian...

And i don┤t think the first sentencs is so complicated...
but anyway: Most of the times it┤s for access on the internet... It┤s much more safer than an "normal" WiFi encryption.

VPN Client is for people who want to have secure access to their office/work network. Your company must have VPN access enabled on their network. There are many forms of VPN. This is an IPSec VPN client.
