Default Back up messages and calender entries on your phone without PC Suite

Phones that run Symbian S60 you can't even access the files and folders that contain your messages and your calendar entries on your phone, which means that the horrible piece of bloatware called PC Suite is the only way to back up your messages and calendar. The draconian restrictions of Symbian are like not having the keys of your own house.

But Symbian has been hacked : ) With a few modifications you can access all files and folders on your phone, and make backup copies whenever and whereever you want without having to connect your phone to a computer that runs PC Suite. Now Mac and Linux users can finally back up their data!

    hack your phone

    Back up your messages

Make a backup of the SMSs and emails in the built-in Symbian messaging application of your phone.

    1. Hack your phone to get access to the c:\private folder.

    2. Copy the entire folder:

    c:\private\1000484b\

to a safe place, such as your memory card or computer, or email it to yourself from your phone. If you want to email it, make a .zip file from the folder first.

If you've told your phone to store messages on your memory card, copy the folder e:\private\ 1000484b\ instead.

The built-in Symbian file browser can't see the c:\private folder, so use a file browser like X-Plore instead. The free version will do.
    Back up your calendar entries

    1. Hack your phone to get access to the c:\private folder.

    2. Copy the file:

    c:\private\10003a5b\Calendar

to a safe place, such as your memory card or computer, or email it to yourself from your phone.

The built-in Symbian file browser can't see the c:\private folder, so use a file browser like X-Plore instead. The free version will do.

    Contacts:
Your contacts database is in C:\Private\100012a5\DBS_100065FF_Contacts.cdb.
On some phones the folder name is 10001295.

Alternative for non hacked phones, get mobile master professional is not free but it can do it all.
Get a 30 day demo here http://www.mobile-master.com/ and if you buy a license, you get free updates when released.

yes good alternative but this method is suppose to be useful for mac and linux owners who have problems in connectiviy and backups as compared to pc owners .

also for message/contacts backup one can still do on unhacked phones .one can use xsms or export sms both of which are freeware and work in python

you can also use windows explorer to find the private folders. Just choose Show Hidden Files and Folders on the customize view option in windows and choose Mass Media when you connect the phone via USB. Unfortunately you can only access the hidden folders files in the memory card not the phone memory. So will only work if your default saves are on memory card.
