I've been trying to do this for ages, when the phone connects via USB (PC Suite mode) Windows Vista says the USB device has malfunctioned.

It also says the same thing on a Windows XP machine.

Is there a fault with the phone? How would you suggest we go ahead?

If you're going to do the manual flashing, yes you should. So that in the MCU selection, you can see it.

Can you try installing the latest version of Nokia Suite, restarting, then trying this again?

Thanks, just done that but it still comes up with the malfunction message from the systray and JAF says "Searching for phone...Not found!!!"

You know the noise that Windows makes when you plug a USB device in? It makes that noise when I push the power button and then click flash on JAF. Then a second later it makes the sound of a USB device being disconnected.

Nokia Suite doesn't even see the phone in PC Suite mode.

I had a cable sent that was faulty (was completely dead) so had to have a replacement sent out - when the new one is plugged into the phone it instantly asks whether to go into PC Suite mode or Mass Storage, etc. so I guess the cable is working fine?

Yes, it is indeed working fine, however, the flashing process is somewhat inverted.

You should click flash first then while JAF log says "Waiting for phone...", you then tap the power button.

    Let me know.

Thanks, I've tried it again making sure to click flash, then tapping the power button after it searches for the phone. It's still saying "Not Found!!!"

Does the "USB inserted sound" play when you tap the power button of the phone?

It should install some flashing drivers at this point. This will be the only way JAF will be able to find your phone.

Also, have you considered flashing with Phoenix?

It plays the "USB Connected" sound when I tap the power button, but about a second later it plays the "USB Disconnected" sound.

I just looked at the Phoenix thread:

    http://forum.dailymobile.net/index.p....msg930#msg930

Sadly the same problem occurs - at the stage where it says to press power button, the USB connected sound plays, then the disconnected sound followed by the pop up error:

"The flashing failed. Do you like to retry the flashing?
    HRESULT: 0x84012286 (-2080300410)
Flash: The device driver did not load. Verify phone is connected and powered on."

In Phoenix itself it said "Failed to open RAW USB connection" and "Unable to set the phone to flash mode. Unable to flash."

Buddy I will advise you to reinstall the jaf.If it asks you to update Nokia drivers do update them.
This has worked for me several times.I hope it will work for you too.
