Default Re: Symbian: Nokia N8 free RAM upon boot

Honestly (I'm not a nokia hater), the N8 is an improvement over the satio/vivaz and the omnia hd, as they have mostly similar specs and features, so if nokia had come out with the N8 about a year ago then it would have kicked more ass than its gonna be now...........well this is just my opinion, if they are gonna release it now amidst the army that is android they must surely have put maemo/meego, 512 ram, and a much more powerful processor to compete with android, otherwise it stands no chance...........

you are correct. N8 should have been released an year ago. But it still is capable of knocking many devices. Not all but many

If the N97 had been the N8, then that would have been really a great smartphone a year ago

I think 256mb is fine, after all, it is only running Symbian. It's not a mammoth of an OS like Android or iOS.

But those new UI effects are sure to hog a few resources I think, but just how much no one really knows.

We'll find out in due time.

Actually S^3 is a resource hog
S^4 will be less efficient than Froyo

What makes you say that S^4 will be less efficient than Froyo? Just curious.

S^3 is resource hog, place Orbit UI on top of it.....
    MEMORY HOG!
And while QT is fantastic, every QT app seems to consume quite a lot of RAM

That is not true, it will need more RAM then s60v5 but it is not a memory hog at all. S^3 has more efficient memory management due to Writeable Data Paging that allows more applications to run in parallel for a faster, more complete and efficient multi-tasking experience, especially on mid-range hardware.

How is S^3 a memory hog if you don't mind me asking.
Furthermore, you can't judge Qt based on apps that are poorly written :-S.
    Are you daft??

You don't even know how Avkon and the associated parts compare to Orbit. Why, because you don't have that information.
    NONE of us do!!!

Look, there is no point talking chop about Symbian 3 until it is actually released...

No matter how good an OS could be, it will always, ALWAYS disappoint some people in a way.

So we should keep the cheap talk to ourselves until Symbian 3 is here for play.
