    Default UIQ is no more

Software company UIQ, jointly owned by Sony Ericsson (6758.T)(ERICb.ST) and Motorola (MOT.N), has filed for bankruptcy in a district court in Sweden, the company's top executive said on Monday. The software developer, which is based in Sweden, began cutting staff six months ago after its owners decided to merge its software with the Symbian platform.

World number one mobile handset maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE) last month finalised its acquisition of Symbian and has pledged to make the software available free of charge.

"There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate," UIQ Chief Executive Johan Sandberg told Reuters.

The company has around 200 employees. (Reporting by Niklas Pollard, editing by Will Waterman)

    He he...
... and three and a half year later I am still using the UIQ3 on my SE G900.
First thing first, the G900 is not my main phone and a little worn. Except for the camera shutter everything works.

Still it's possible to find apps for UIQ and I know many people that loves their G, M and P (and the single W model) series UIQ.

Sadly with the G900 (and the two G700 w and w/o camera) is really slowed down with a 16GB m2 card.
Need more than 10GB for my mp3 collection (all or nothing) and where to find smaller memory-stick m2 when the 16GB m2 card is hard to find nowadays.

At least 2012 there is still some life in the UIQ OS...
