Wal-Mart To Sell iPhone 3G Starting Dec. 28 At $197
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) confirmed Friday it will begin selling Apple's ( AAPL) iPhone 3G on Sunday, offering the eight-gigabyte model for $197 and the 16 GB model for $297.
Prices are for phones with a new two-year service agreement with AT&T (T) or with a qualified upgrade, the retailing giant said in a brief statement on its web site.
Reports that Wal-Mart would begin selling the phones, previously available only at Apple stores, Best Buy Co. Inc. (BBY) and AT&T Inc., have been circulating for weeks, but the retailer hadn't commented. Many of those reports indicated the phones might be priced as low as $99, but Wal-Mart made no mention of such discounts on Friday.
Wal-Mart shares recently gained 14 cents to $55.44 in premarket trading. Best Buy shares fell to $26.14, while AT&T shares haven't traded.testing
