Default Symbian is the first Mobile OS to be shipped in over 25 million devices in a quarter

Symbian has today revealed that it has been shipped in over 27 million devices in the Q2 period, equating to almost 300,000 per day, 207 per minute or over three a second.

These startling figures were revealed in a recent report by industry analyst Canalys and highlight the Symbian’s continued position as the world’s most popular smartphone operating systems. The full press release can be found after the break..

SYMBIAN SHIPS NEARLY 300,000 DEVICES A DAY IN Q2 2010

Over 25 million devices shipped for the first time in a quarter

San Francisco and London - 4 August 2010 – The Symbian Foundation

today revealed it has shipped over 27 million devices in the Q2

period. This equates to almost 300,000 per day, 207 per minute or over

three a second. These figures, released in Canalys’ latest report

    (www.canalys.com/services/reports/spmt), highlight Symbian’s

continued position as the world’s most popular smartphone operating

system, which has now become the first to be shipped in over 25

million devices in the space of one quarter.

Lee M. Williams, Executive Director of Symbian, said: "These figures

make for very positive news for the Symbian community. The smartphone

market place has become more crowded than ever. So the fact we

continue to outsell our competitors by such large margins, combined

with all the feature commitments and developments published on our

roadmaps, make us highly confident in our outlook and we will continue

    to embrace the challenges ahead."

Symbian recently announced its annual event, the Symbian Exchange and

Exposition 2010 (SEE 2010), which will be held at Beurs van Berlage in

Amsterdam on the 9th and 10th November. Attendance is free and the

event is open to all. To register, visit www.see2010.org.

i would love to see how many phones contained s40. im sure its very very high. And considering everyone is moving to smart phones this will die very fast. Nokia was on top of their game w/ s60 on the beginning but now....UHHHH. I currently hold a n97 mini. but moving to android. Heres to nokia runing the dumb phone market.

I agree with the poster above. Even my pocket knife is running symbian As far as numbers go: stinkier crap= more flies. This ain't a market strategy and it won't last long. It's like the Verizon UI on all the dumbphones.

I just don't understand one thing: if symbian sells this well why in the heck don't they make a lot of (free) apps and a decent appstore!!!

This way they will loose very soon from their sellings.

You need lots of clever imaginitive developers for lots of decent apps
And 90% of these clever imaginitive developers prefer Android and iPhone

Because these phones have the hardware and software platform to handle apps much much better than Symbian.................

I think these are all smartphones, which means all of them have s60, and not s40. This is my opinion though since smartphones are mobile phones with OS, and s60 is Symbian OS. Correct me if I'm wrong here. ",

You are right about S60 being an OS. But so is Windows 95.
