Default Nokia warns Q2 sales - Press

Nokia cut its second-quarter financial guidance, the latest sign of its failure to tackle the growing dominance of Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Research in Motion Ltd's Blackberry devices in the premium smartphone segment.
Nokia, the world's largest handset maker, said the lower guidance is due to competition in the high-end market segment, a shift in the product mix to products with lower margins, and the recent depreciation of the euro.
Nokia said it now expects second-quarter net sales in its mobile devices and services business to be at the lower end of its previous guidance for EUR6.7 billion to EUR7.2 billion, due to lower than expected average selling price and device volumes.

The company, which will report second-quarter earnings July 22, also said it expects its devices & services operating margin to be at the low end of, or slightly below, its previously guided range of 9% to 12% in the second quarter, and at the lower end or below its previous 2010 guidance of 11% to 13%.
It also said it now expects its mobile device value market share to be slightly lower in the full year 2010 compared with 2009, against previous expectations for a slightly higher value share.

The company is under pressure from rivals both in the high-end smartphone segment, but likely also the volume market for cheaper phones in which competitors such as South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. may now be taking market share, said Swedbank analyst Jari Honko. Nokia faces "a few difficult quarters" with no quick relief in sight, he said. Swedbank has a sell rating on Nokia.
Nokia has conceded that it needs to improve its smartphone lineup as a matter of priority, a factor behind two recent business restructurings that aimed to speed innovation and get products to market more quickly--key failings that have cost it dearly.
The company plans to launch its N8 phone in the third quarter based on Symbian3, the next upgrade of its main smartphone platform, with features such as Ovi Maps turn-by-turn navigation and a 12 megapixel camera.
It has also developed the MeeGo mobile platform with Intel Corp. that it plans to use in future premium devices. But while these products and services are yet to appear, Apple in particular continues to raise the bar. It recently announced the launch of iPhone 4, with an improved screen, battery life and camera, targetting an accelerated rollout to 88 countries by September as its international markets become increasingly important. Its operating system, like that of Android-based devices, is seen by users as slicker than that of rivals, including Symbian which badly needs its overhaul to succeed. Apple's App Store is also vastly more popular than Nokia's Ovi store.
Nokia Wednesday reiterated its previous 2010 outlook for industry device volumes rising around 10%, and a flat volume market share compared with 2009. The company's Devices & Services business in the first quarter 2010 generated net sales of EUR6.66 billion and an operating margin of 12.5%.

At 1232 GMT, shares in Nokia were down 11% at EUR7.06, against a 2.3% fall in the broader Helsinki market.
[Via]

maybe if they released more handsets on time and prevented leaks things might be different

or

instead of making to many
make two good decent models per level ie two good s40 one high end one low end and same for e/c/n
series if you catch my drift

I agree with both points. There was already new that Nokia took some corporate restructuring to enable different departments work better with each other. It takes time, but maybe by the end of this year we can see some changes.
