Default Android 2.2 to be released very soon (SDK released)

Great news for Nexus One users: Froyo aka OS 2.2 will be released in the coming week(s)
    Here's a good article:

The smartphone wars are heating up especially with Google’s latest offering, the Nexus One, which is getting a rumored (huge) boost from the impending release of Android’s 2.2 version, Froyo. This Android update will supposedly make the Nexus One 450 percent faster. Many other cool features will be on tap as well.

The folks at AndroidPolice managed to get their hands on a Google Nexus One phone running the updated Android 2.2 Froyo, and were more than impressed. They ran a series of tests on the smartphone using linpack software to test speed. The results were quite good. Though they may differ from real world usage, Froyo was indeed 450 percent faster than version 2.1.

Since the release of the smartphone of all smartphones, the iPhone, the mobile phone market has reached a new level of frenzy. In fact, it is hard to imagine an America before the iPhone, or Blackberry. Seemingly, everyone is getting on board the smartphone revolution.

The primary competition was once solely a Blackberry v.s. iPhone affair. However, with Google entering the ring, things got a lot more interesting. Google has thus far released a variety of Android-powered phones across various networks including Verizon, Sprint and T-mobile, which offers the Nexus One. Android is an open system, meaning developers can create as many apps as they want, without having to face the sort of app police, iPhone users are accustomed to.

However, Google’s Android army isn’t all made equal. Many of the phones are still running on version 1.6, so Froyo is still a ways off. According to reports, Android 2.2 will be announced shortly on May 19 – the opening day of the Google I/O conference. Other rumored changes include Flash 10.1 support, new apps, additional RAM, FM radio, touch screen optimization, and a multicolored trackball.

Not all of them, Nexus One will have it first as it's a ''pure'' google phone while new HTC Sense phones like Legend and Desire will get it perhaps several months later (because of SENSE conversion).
Look at the Heroe and OS 2.1...
