    Default G2 help

Firstlly I want to say sorry for all these questions, as u can see from my post-count i'm a noob :-)

    I'm trying to Root my T-mobile G2
I'm using the Unlockr website, seems very helpfull.
I tried to root normally but it wouldn't have it.
I tried the gold card root, tried to install the older ROM version and I got this Error from the Sync programme.
    ERROR (140 Bootloader Version Error
    What does that mean?
Also if I try and do a hard reset it won't let me.
I shut the phone down, hold the Home & Power button.
I get the Triangle and then press them again.
I then get blue writting saying
    -Android system recovery utility
    - Use trackball to highlight: click to select

    I get 3 options
    -reboot system now [Home+Back]
    -apply [alt+s]
    -wipe data/factory reset [alt+w]

    Neither of these options work?
At the bottom of the screen I get:-

    E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

To het out of this screen I have to remove the battry and let the phone boot up normally/
    What have I done?
    Thanks in advance.

OK,... How exactly are you trying to root,... Post a link if you can?

Try the following to install a custom recovery and let me know how it goes.

    Installing a recovery image:

    1. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications - and make sure "Unknown Source" is ticked.

    2. On your phone, go to Settings > SD card and phone storage - click Unmount SD card.

    3. Then click Format SD card.

    4. Plug the phone into the computer via USB, then pull down the notification bar and click on the SD card notification. Then click mount.

    5. Download this APK and recovery image and save it to your computer: - FlashRec.apk - Amon_Ra’s Hero Recovery Image

    6. Copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).

    7. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.

    8. Go to the Market and download ASTRO File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.

    9. Open the file manager and find the FlashRec apk file and click it and choose open app manager and then install it.

    10. When it is installed click Open. Click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish. If you get "backup failed" response see the "Ib. Installing the correct HTC ROM" section for more details, if the backup is a success carry on.

    11. Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type:

(replace exact name as new versions come out)

Then click on the Flash Recovery Image button and wait for it to finish.
..... Taken from BTDAG's [Guide] Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom on XDA-Developers.

IF that works ok then you can flash a custom ROM straight away,... If you get problems then yes, as you already know, you will have to try downgrading your ROM again.

Use the link to BTDAG's tutorial and compare it with the instructions you have been using.
