    Default T-Mobile G1

In what comes as rather shocking news, it is revealed through an Android “source” that Apple asked Google not to include multi touch in its hitherto only Android handset released exclusively in partnership with T-Mobile. Apparently, the source said that when Google showed a pre-production unit of the G1 to Apple and its legal team, Google was asked not to include multi touch in the device, and Google “complied”. It’s a shocker how subservient Google is to Apple, especially considering that they don’t really compete in business other than the handset business.

Apparently, the 3.5mm industry standard headphone socket also had to go - Apple owns many patents - multi touch being one of the recent ones - and it also owns patents related to controlling the operation of the device using the 3.5mm jack. And that is precisely the reason why we ended up with the sh1tty proprietary extUSB port on our G1s. Now we know.

While this is all water under the bridge, what is interesting is what will happen to the Palm Pre - will Apple come out with all guns blazing and enforce its ownership of multi touch, which is a key component of the Pre? Apple’s and Palm’s relationship has soured consistently, what with Palm having a policy of “poaching” Apple’s employees, according to the report below. This will be an interesting development to watch - and don’t be surprised if the Pre doesn’t launch on schedule!

That video is very impressive and puts everything you need to. Thanks for posting that, very interesting but the G1 is not for me.

I'd be willing to bet multi-touch makes it in Android OS 2.0
